Update...

Hi all...
Ok so after another 2 days of shaping and sanding... And adding more weight to the Top Wings / Flaps, I decided it was just WAY TOO HEAVY...
If I can put it into perspective, that one small unit weighed the same as all 5 others combined... Just crazy...
So I took the following night off and was looking into other options...

And then ended up with the following...
(Already had them cut so no point in starting all over again... 8-)
I then took the hammer to the one I was busy shaping and sanding and knocked off all the filler I lay down and then used the belt sander to clean off the excess.
I then started with one of the bigger pieces and started sanding the "fin" edges down to around 6mm, and sanded down the foam to be the same height as the board...
Remember I want to put LED strip Lights on then for my back lights...

And this was the result...

Thought it turned out ok on this one, so will now get started on the others...
And this unit is so much lighter and will still work, without spending days on end trying to shape and sand them all the same...

Update...

Ok so I managed to get another 4 done today, But the last one I wasn't able to do.
Reason is that when I did the foam on it (the first one) I did not cover enough and so it did not reach all the sides correctly..
So when I cut the excess off, I loosened the entire piece...

O well, plan B... Or I need to order more foam and redo it...
But will see how things look tomorrow and decide...
So here are the other 4 completed units...

Hi all...

Ok so, I ordered some more expanding foam and that arrived yesterday... :D
So obviously I had to go and redo the one wing / flap that was not right...

So I have to let it sit overnight to cure properly, but then did a layer of resin over the other 5 units that were sanded and ready...

And then let those sit and cure overnight too...

Very cool work. I'm probably going to go the metal route for my flaps, but not sure yet.

So many ways to accomplish a task.

Thanks man.

Yeah I did contemplate doing them out of steel too and the body... But then I wouldnt be able to do much now as Im still trying to clear space in the other garage to start the framework...
But I do believe that steel would have been a lot easier and quicker to accomplish...
But then again, I had the material, and a bit of time...

Update..

Hi all,
So I did not get as far as I would have hoped today but some progress is better that no progress I suppose...
Cleaned up the new wing I redid, Lay down some resin on the bottom of the other units let it dry...

And once that was dry I managed to get 2 layers of fiberglass down on 4 of the units...
Was hoping to get all 6 done but thats ok...

Love to see all your progress brother. Makes me want to get back at it! But I'll be heading to my Island retreat soon, so won't be able to do anything until spring.

Hi all...

Small update...
So the last 2 weeks have been crazy busy at work for shutdown and planning a factory move early in Jan...
But this week I spent a little bit of time each night sanding and cleaning off the fiberglass edges and doing a little smoothing in prep for putty...

Then I also had to fill in a few small sections that never filled properly with the last foam session...
WAR Tumbler - Air Flaps (48).jpg

Will clean these off tomorrow and prep again and lay down some fiberglass...
WAR Tumbler - Air Flaps (49).jpg

And while I was waiting for that piece to dry and set I started cutting more fiberglass to do the other side of the wings...
But this time I wanted to doe them as per the shape so I have less excess overhang to clean off...
So what I did was place each unit down and trace the outline with a marker then cut them out... Did 2 layers for each unit...
